Welcome to the

About the Job Winslow Chapter

Our chapter was founded with the great desire to bring the national goals of Historic Preservation, Promotion of Education and Patriotic endeavor to the people of our community. We were founded in 1914 by 17 Charter Members, one of whom was Elida Winslow Lind, daughter of Job Winslow after whom our chapter is named. Job Winslow, born 10 July 1754 in Dighton, Massachusetts served as a corporal in Henry Jacksonís Continental Regiment for three years and later as a 2nd Lieutenant in Col. Isaac Deanís Regiment.

Our chapter supports local veterans in many ways as well as active Military. We donate food to the Salvation Army, Father Fred and local food banks. We promote National Constitution Week annually. Conservation programs encourage recycling, planting trees and beautification of our area, including cemeteries. We recognize award medals for Conservation, Community Service, Outstanding Civil Air Patrol Cadet, Distinguish Citizen, Women of the Arts, Good Citizenship in schools and we sponsor American History essay contests on patriotic subjects annually. Our chapter participates in numerous parades during Cherry Festival, we attend the Memorial Day Observance, Flag Day Observance and Veterans Day Observance. We have a stretch of highway in Traverse City that we have adopted which we are responsible for the cleaning of 3 times a year.

We were a proud partner of the Department of Defense for the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War and all who served during that era during the national commemoration.

In 2016 our chapter along with other chapters in the state provided lovely beauty bags with beauty items for female veterans of Michigan and gas and gift cards for the veterans of Michigan.

The Job Winslow Chapter, one of 52 DAR of Michigan chapters, is located in Traverse City, the Cherry Capital of the World! Hence, our chapter logo. Our membership, currently over 110 strong, is spread throughout Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Antrim and Kalkaska counties. Our meetings usually are held on the third Saturday of the month, March through November, at 11:00. Please see our meeting schedule under Programs on this website

Please visit our Gallery to look at our photos to get an idea of not only how dedicated we are to service, but how much fun we have

The Job Winslow Chapter has helpful members who host genealogical workshops in the surrounding communities and would enjoy and welcome helping prospective members with researching their ancestors. Guests are always welcome at our chapter meetings.
